How to use the Crop & Rotate Image

  1. Add an image. A crop box appears over it.
  2. Drag the box or its handles. Choose a ratio, or leave “Free” for any shape. You can also type X, Y, width and height.
  3. Use the rotate and flip buttons, or the angle slider for small corrections. “Auto-fit” trims the empty corners left by tilting.
  4. Press Crop, check the result, and download it as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Tips for better results

  • Rotate and flip first, then crop: the crop box always works on what you see.
  • To straighten a horizon, move the angle slider a degree or two and press “Auto-fit” so no blank corners remain.
  • A square crop (1:1) suits profile pictures; 16:9 suits video thumbnails and slides.

Limitations you should know about

  • Tilting by an angle other than a multiple of 90° leaves empty corners, which are filled with your chosen background or kept transparent in PNG and WebP.
  • The result is re-encoded, so JPG and WebP lose a little quality and metadata is removed.
  • Very large images (above 100 megapixels) are refused to protect your browser’s memory.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping lower the quality?

Cropping itself does not change pixel quality. Saving as JPG or WebP re-encodes the image, so choose PNG or a high quality setting if you want the least loss.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

Yes. Type the width and height in the fields; the crop box updates. To output a specific final size, crop first and then use the Image Resizer.

Why did my phone photo appear rotated in other tools?

Phones store the rotation in the file instead of rotating the pixels. This tool applies that orientation when it opens the image, so what you see is what you get.
