How to use the Meta Tag Generator
- Enter the page title and description.
- Add the canonical address if the same page can be reached at several addresses.
- Keep “link previews” ticked and add a preview image address. 1200 × 630 pixels is a common size.
- Copy the tags and paste them between <head> and </head>.
Tips for better results
- Use a full https:// address for images. Relative paths do not work in link previews.
- Every page needs its own title and description. Copying the same ones to all pages makes them harder to tell apart.
- After publishing, test the page in the sharing debugger of the network you care about, because they cache previews.
Limitations you should know about
- The tags are only the text. You still need to put them in your pages, and your site builder or theme may already add some of them, which can cause duplicates.
- Search engines treat tags as hints. A canonical or robots tag is not an order.
- The “keywords” meta tag is not included on purpose, because major search engines ignore it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I put the tags?
Inside the <head> element of the HTML page, before </head>. In WordPress and similar systems, use the SEO or theme settings instead.
What is a canonical tag?
It tells search engines which address is the main one when the same content is available at several. Use the full address of the preferred version.
Do I need Open Graph tags?
They are not needed for ranking. They control the title, text and picture shown when your link is shared on social networks and chat apps.
